Galaxy S24 Ultra to Get Major Camera Boost with One UI 7.0

by | Jul 29, 2024 | Galaxy S, News

Samsung’s One UI 7.0 beta program is on the horizon. Much of the talk about the big update has been focused on its UI overhaul and redesigned app icons. Not much is known about the new features that the company is readying. No doubt there will be plenty of those, but hardly a few have hit the leaks. Galaxy S24 Ultra users may be more excited for something else though. A reliable tipster says One UI 7.0 will bring huge camera performance improvements to the device.

Galaxy S24 Ultra to get major camera improvements with One UI 7.0

Launched in January, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a powerful camera setup. However, Samsung hasn’t been able to unblock its full potential yet. The company has already released a few camera updates for the phone but it still lags the competition in some areas. It is expected to substantially improve the camera performance of the new Ultra with a big update in August. If leaks are accurate, the device will get an image quality boost for several shooting models next month.

However, it may still be not enough. Tipster Ice Universe, who is accurate with their leaks more often than not, says the One UI 7.0 update will bring another round of major camera improvements to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. According to the source, the Android 15-based update will particularly address processing shortcomings in two shooting modes. In their words, Samsung has “significantly optimized the 1x and 5x 50MP modes” to achieve “the visual experience of 12MP, but with higher clarity.”

By default, the 200MP main camera and 50MP 5x zoom camera on the Galaxy S24 Ultra capture 12MP shots with pixel binning. You can manually switch to 50MP and 200MP modes for the former and the 50MP mode for the latter. However, these pictures usually lack clarity. It appears 50MP shots from these cameras will finally match the quality of 12MP images following the One UI 7.0 update. Samsung is expected to open public beta programs for the big update in the coming days.

Rumors say the Galaxy S25 Ultra will mostly keep the same camera hardware as the Galaxy S24 Ultra. So, expect these optimizations to be available on the 2025 flagship out of the box. The new Ultra will ship with One UI 7.0 or One UI 7.1, so that’s even more likely. While the device is still several months away, you can already sign up for our mystery box program. We will send you free accessories when you purchase the Galaxy S25 Ultra next year. Sounds good? Sign up here.
