Global Galaxy S24 users have to wait longer for the One UI 6.1.1 update
The latest update for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with the One UI 6.1 software version but is based on One UI 6.1.1 (this version number is only shown on foldables and tablets). Introduced with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6, the new version adds Galaxy AI tools and other enhancements. It also unlocks UHQ audio for compatible Galaxy Buds models.
Shortly after rolling out the update to the Korean Galaxy S24 units, Samsung put out a press release detailing the major changes. Towards the end of the press release, the company specified the planned release timeline for global markets. It said the update will reach North America and Europe on September 9 and gradually expand to the rest of the world. Other eligible devices will receive it “in the coming weeks.”
Among the new AI features is a powerful tool that lets you quickly turn rough sketches into proper drawings. You draw the outline and provide text prompts to get the perfect image of your imagination. The update also adds live call translation support to third-party apps such as WhatsApp, Google Meet, and Kakao Talk. Last but not least, Samsung Internet can now translate text contained in images.
Alongside the One UI 6.1.1 goodies, the Galaxy S24 series also picks up camera enhancements. The update brings the latest, September 2024 security patch as well. This month’s security release fixes 67 issues of varying severity, including one critical security flaw in Android OS. Samsung has already pushed the new security patch to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 in the US, with a wider release expected soon.
