Samsung is rapidly rolling out the January security patch to eligible Galaxy devices amid anticipation for One UI 7.0. It has already updated about a dozen models, and a few more joined the party today. The Galaxy S24 FE and the Galaxy S21 series are the latest to receive Samsung’s January security update.
January update available for the Galaxy S24 FE and S21 series
Over the past few days, Samsung has rolled out the January security patch, aka SMR (Security Maintenance Release), to the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Flip 6, Fold 4, Flip 4, Galaxy S21 FE, and more devices across various parts of the world. The company just extended this month’s security patch to the Galaxy S24 FE and the 2021 Galaxy S flagship lineup.
The newest Fan Edition handset is receiving the January SMR in Europe, Korea, and the USA. Carrier-locked units stateside are picking up the update with the firmware build number S721USQS3AXL1. The rollout doesn’t seem to have reached unlocked units yet. The update bears the build number S721BXXS3AXL1 in Europe and S721NKSS2AXL1 in Korea.
Regardless of the market, the Galaxy S24 FE is getting the same changes. The update is all about this month’s security fixes. There are more than 50 patches in Samsung’s January 2025 SMR, with the package also bundling Android OS fixes from Google. Samsung will soon push the new SMR to the phone globally.
The Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra are also initially receiving the January update in the US. The new build number for the 2021 flagship trio is G99*USQSEGXLB. Once again, Samsung is only pushing the latest security fixes. All of these devices are eligible for the Android 15-based One UI 7.0 update. Samsung will introduce the new version with the Galaxy S25 series next week before rolling it out to other models.
