The August 2024 Google Play system update (GPSU) is rolling out to the Galaxy S24 and other Samsung phones. It brings a slew of enhancements improving system stability, security, and overall user experience. The newly launched Galaxy Z Fold 6 lingers on the April patch.
Galaxy S24 series picks up the August Google Play system update
Often weighing less than 100MB, Google Play system updates for Android devices look like minor routine updates. However, these are significantly valuable updates for your Android experience. They bring essential fixes and upgrades to system apps and components that make up the core of Android OS, optimizing your device’s performance for improved fluidity. These updates may also bring new features.
The latest GPSU is now available for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S24 Ultra, and several other Samsung phones. The update weighs 76MB for the Ultra model. The size may vary depending on the model but the content largely remains the same. As usual, Android products from other brands are also picking up the August GPSU globally with identical file sizes and changelogs.
To check for new Google Play system updates on your Galaxy phone, navigate to Settings > About phone > Software information and tap Google Play system update (your current GPSU build is mentioned). If an update is available, you will be prompted to download and install it. You need to restart your phone to complete the update process. If you don’t see any updates, wait a few days and check again.
While the Galaxy S24 series has regularly received the latest GPSU, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has yet to pick a new build. The big new foldable shipped with the April build and remains on it. It’s uncertain whether Samsung is experiencing a repeat of the odd situation last year when Galaxy devices went several months without receiving a new GPSU. We will let you know when we have more information.
