Samsung is slowly expanding the December security patch to more devices. After updating the 2024 flagship lineup, including foldables, it has now released the latest security update for the Galaxy S23 series. Other models should join the party in the coming days.
December update is rolling out to the Galaxy S23 series
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 were the first to receive Samsung’s December security update. The company then expanded the rollout to the Galaxy S24 series, including the FE model. It recently released the update for these devices globally, with both carrier-locked and unlocked units receiving the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) in the US.
Samsung has now started updating the 2023 flagship lineup, with the Galaxy S23 series getting the nod ahead of others. The update is currently rolling out in its home country, South Korea. The Ultra is receiving a 425MB update with the firmware build number S918NKSS5CXKA. The rest of the lineup gets an identical build number.
The latest update for the Galaxy S23 trio brings nothing more than this month’s security fixes. Samsung’s December SMR patches 44 vulnerabilities across all smartphones and tablets it currently provides updates to. Six of those are critical-rated vulnerabilities in Android OS, duly patched by Google. Some others are Galaxy flaws that do not affect Android products from other brands.
Samsung will soon release the December update for the Galaxy S23 series in more markets, including the US. It will also roll out the new SMR to additional Galaxy devices. Moreover, the company is expected to expand its One UI 7.0 beta program to other devices this month. It is currently only available for the Galaxy S24 lineup.
If you are using a recent Samsung flagship, you may receive One UI 7.0 beta in the coming weeks as long as you live in a supported market. Samsung has announced beta programs for the US, the UK, China, India, Germany, Poland, and South Korea. You can register your device for beta updates via the Samsung Members app. To check for updates, go to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
