Galaxy S20 Series Receives the Latest (August 2024) Update

by | Aug 14, 2024 | Galaxy S, News, Updates

Samsung’s August 2024 security update has landed on the Galaxy S20 series. Both 4G and 5G versions of the 2020 flagships are receiving the latest security patch. It addresses 50 vulnerabilities, including two critical flaws in Android OS and Galaxy components. This update has already reached dozens of other Galaxy devices.

Galaxy S20 series grabs Samsung’s August update

Launched in early 2020, the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra are enjoying a fifth year of support from Samsung. The devices have stopped getting feature updates but the company regularly pushes security patches to the aging flagships. It will likely update the phones to new security levels until sometime in 2025.

If you are rocking one of these phones, the latest August 2024 SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is headed your way. Samsung recently released the update for 4G and 5G versions of the Galaxy S20 trio in Switzerland. The rollout should gradually expand to the rest of Europe and make its way to other parts of the world.

The August update for the Galaxy S20 series bears the firmware build numbers G98*FXXSLHXG1 (4G models) and G98*BXXSLHXG1 (5G models). Since feature updates have already ended, no point looking for additional goodies here. The devices are only getting the 50 vulnerability patches mentioned above, which is plenty.

Samsung has already pushed the August SMR to Galaxy S22, S23, and S24 lineups in most parts of the world. Foldables launched between 2021 and 2023 have also received the update, and so have the Galaxy Note 20 series, Galaxy S20 FE, and several mid-range models. The Galaxy S21 series, 2024 foldables, and other eligible Galaxy devices should pick it up in the coming weeks.

Samsung lets you manually check for updates from the Settings app. Scroll down to the Software update menu and tap Download and install to see if you have any updates waiting for download. You can check back anytime if you don’t see a pending update today. Stay tuned for more information on Samsung’s August security update as well as One UI 6.1.1 and One UI 7.0 updates.
