Delayed Launch Looks Likely for Samsung’s First-Ever Tri-fold

Samsung is gearing up to expand its foldable lineup this year, introducing an affordable model and a tri-fold. However, only the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 may debut at its upcoming Unpacked event in July. Recent reports suggest the company has begun mass production of key components for the duo, but not for the two new models. This likely means a delayed launch.

Samsung has yet to begin mass production of its tri-fold, hinting at a delayed launch

Multiple sources have confirmed that Samsung is now producing key components for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 on a large scale. The company has been procuring some components from its suppliers since February, but recently ramped up production across the supply chain. This suggests the rumored early-July official launch is on track.

However, we heard nothing about component production for the tri-fold or the affordable model, respectively called the G Fold and Galaxy Z Flip FE/Xe (names not confirmed). And that’s because Samsung hasn’t kicked off mass production for these two models, or at least the tri-fold.

According to noted industry insider Max Jambor, the Korean firm has been producing some components for the Q7M (internal codename for the tri-fold) in small quantities since the end of March. However, “mass production hasn’t started yet,” which more or less confirms a delayed launch. The company may be planning to introduce it sometime in September or October, or maybe even later?

Another theory is that Samsung may not release the tri-fold globally, hence it can start its mass production a little late and still launch it in July. There have been rumors of the phone seeing a limited initial launch, so that isn’t completely off the table. Even if the device doesn’t go official at the upcoming Unpacked, Samsung may give us a glimpse with an official teaser. Stick around for more.
