Googleโs shift in release strategy with Android 16 allowed manufacturers like Samsung to prepare their next major update ahead of schedule. One UI 7 was heavily delayed and is still facing issues to this day, but behind the scenes, Samsungโs One UI 8 development is progressing fast. Ahead of its rumored launch in July, a major leak gives us a sneak peek at this update. Letโs take a look.
What does One UI 8 look like?
The folks over at Smartprix managed to get their hands on an early internal build of One UI 8 for the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Initially, the changes seem minimal compared to One UI 7, but there are some interesting differences. Weโre presuming this build has the April 2025 security patch, based on our previous find, but this also has the May Google Play system update.
Minor visual tweaks
There are some cosmetic changes visible with this update. My Files gets shorter, rectangular file types on the main page, while Gallery gets a blurred โmoreโ menu with solid buttons. This could be a hint at further changes to more of Samsungโs apps.
Now Brief is no longer S25 exclusive with One UI 8
Yes, you read that right. Samsung did indeed lie to us. Now Brief will be hitting more devices with the One UI 8 update. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy chipset as the Flip 6 and Galaxy S24 series, so at a minimum, it will hit these devices. It could progress further down the line, but thatโs not clear yet. One UI 7 doesnโt bring Now Brief to older models.
We all presumed that One UI 8 would be an iterative update, and we were correct. This is a very early build, so things may change or even disappear in the future. New features may be added, but we are mainly expecting optimisations, bug fixes, and minor cosmetic improvements. One UI 8 is expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 this July.
