Three weeks ago, Samsung pulled the wraps off the Galaxy S25 Ultra with notable display upgrades. However, the new Ultra doesn’t use the advanced M14 OLED panel, but an improved version of the previous-gen M13 solution. Meanwhile, Samsung continues to supply M14 OLEDs to other firms. A tipster has confirmed that its M14 panels will make their way across the entire iPhone 17 lineup.
Even the base iPhone 17 will use Samsung’s M14 OLED panel, while Galaxy S25 Ultra misses out
Samsung’s display division has already supplied M14 OLED panels to Apple and Google in the past. Apple has used them in the iPhone 16 Pro series, while Google has them in the Pixel 9 series. But now, according to a tip from Jukanlosreve on X, the entire iPhone 17 lineup will sport M14 OLED panels. That means even the base model gets the same top-tier display.
If this holds true, it’ll be one of the biggest display upgrades, especially for the non-Pro iPhones. Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup could include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Some rumors suggest Apple might drop the Plus model in favor of the Air, but it’s still a bit early to say for sure. Whatever happens, we’ll find out this fall when Apple typically releases new iPhones.
The M14 OLED is Samsung’s brightest and best yet, with a brightness boost of 20-30% over the M13. These screens are also more efficient and have a longer lifespan. Despite missing out on this technological upgrade, the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s anti-reflective display with PeoScaler technology ensures excellent visibility and colors.
Now, whether Apple will finally bring 120Hz refresh rate support to the base iPhone 17 remains to be seen, but it’s looking more likely, especially with all models getting that M14 OLED upgrade. Expect more information in the coming months.
