After waiting for a long time, Android users can finally play Genshin Impact with a controller. This means if you were playing the action RPG on your Android device, you can now use a physical controller instead of touching the screen. Notably, this feature has been available on iPhones since 2021.
Android users can now play Genshin Impact with a physical controller
According to a report from Android Police, Genshin Impact received a new update called Day of the Flameโs Return with version 5.5. The update adds new places to explore, new characters, and special game-themed accessories from Ugreen. However, the biggest surprise was the addition of controller support on Android.
After updating to the new Genshin Impact version 5.5, you can now connect physical controllers via Bluetooth or USB. It is worth noting that the controller support is not enabled by default. You have to head over to the game settings to turn it on. However, it is still better than having no controller support at all. Also, once players connect a controller, the touchscreen stops working, which is frustrating for many users.
Although the game works with a controller, there are some small noticeable issues that make it feel unfinished. This could be one of many reasons why the developer took four years to add this feature to the Android version of the game. Hopefully, future updates will fix these small problems.
Earlier, a developerโs discussion post mentioned only four compatible controllers: the DualShock 4 Wireless Controller, DualSense Wireless Controller, Xbox Wireless Controller, and Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2. Interestingly, all of these controllers rely on Bluetooth for wireless use. However, as noted by Android Police, players can also connect a controller using a wired connection. This means controllers like the Razer Kishi can still be used with Genshin Impact on Android.
