Samsung’s Galaxy S25 flagships look confirmed to support Qi2 wireless charging. However, reports suggest the devices won’t include built-in magnets for MagSafe compatibility. This means they cannot natively offer magnetic alignment with chargers and accessories. Samsung might introduce a magnetic case to enable these features.
Galaxy S25 supports Qi2 wireless charging but lacks MagSafe compatibility
Co-developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and Apple, Qi2 is the latest wireless charging standard for mobile devices. It is based on Apple’s MagSafe technology, which enables perfect magnetic alignment. Not only does it offer more efficient charging but it also adds support for magnetic accessories. However, it’s an optional feature and requires built-in magnets on devices.
According to X tipster @chunvn8888, Samsung won’t fit magnets on the back of the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra. Though unconfirmed, this might have something to do with the magnets potentially impeding the S Pen functionality on the Ultra model. However, this also means the Galaxy S25 trio will lack support for MagSafe-enabled accessories like wallets and pop sockets.
Interestingly, while the official Qi2 standard only delivers 15W wireless charging, the new report says the Galaxy S25 series supports 25W charging. The tipster could be mistaken though, as the newer MagSafe on the Qi2-enabled iPhone 16 series offers 25W wireless charging. Or maybe Samsung has worked something of its own on top of the Qi2 standard, we shall find out soon.
Meanwhile, the firm may have a solution for those who want to attach magnetic accessories to the back of their Galaxy S25. The tipster confirmed an earlier leak hinting at an official magnetic case for the upcoming flagships. The Korean firm has allegedly prepared a transparent “Magnet Case” for the devices. It features built-in magnets, ensuring support for magnetic alignment and MagSafe accessories.
Speaking of cases, Samsung may also offer a Kindsuit Case for the Galaxy S25 trio. It currently makes KindSuit cases only for foldables. The Galaxy S25’s cover is expected to come in Black, Gold, Gray, and Light Blue colors. The company will offer several other official covers for the new flagships. The devices launch on January 22, 2025. Expect more leaks and rumors in the coming weeks.
