Samsung is rapidly expanding the use of AI technology across its products. To support this expansion, the company has allegedly decided to upgrade its home appliances, equipping them with AI-capable features. According to a recent report, it plans to use Qualcomm chips in its next-gen high-end home appliances.
Future Samsung home appliances may feature Qualcomm chips
Qualcomm’s newly launched Snapdragon 8 Elite looks set to power all Galaxy S25 smartphones globally next year. Samsung may expand its partnership with the American chipmaker by bringing its chips into home appliances too. The current crop of these products features low-power chips sourced from China or Taiwan.
According to the Korean media, this move is part of Samsung’s efforts to make its devices smarter with AI capabilities. The chips used currently aren’t powerful enough to support AI features or other advanced tasks. The company wants to upgrade to more advanced processors that can handle tasks like image and voice recognition.
Qualcomm is known for its advanced AI processing chips, which offer powerful onboard NPUs (Neural Processing Units) to support these features. Samsung’s advanced Family Hub series refrigerators and other home appliances could benefit from these powerful processors. These devices feature multiple sensors, including cameras, and offer advanced smart functions.
Samsung may also be looking to strengthen its negotiating power over chip pricing with Qualcomm. The chipmaker might offer exclusive discounts if the Korean firm increases its chip purchases. It is already going all-in with Snapdragon for the Galaxy S25 series despite MediaTek offering its Dimensity 9400 about 20% cheaper.
The Korean company has also used an advanced Qualcomm chip in its flagship Jet Bot Combo AI robotic vacuum. Moving forward, we can likely expect to see more Samsung products featuring Qualcomm processors. Stay tuned for more updates as the two tech giants look set to expand their partnership in the coming years.
