Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Redefines Mobile AI Experiences

by | Oct 22, 2024 | Galaxy S, News

Qualcomm has officially unveiled the highly anticipated Snapdragon 8 Elite, aka Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Expected to power the Galaxy S25 Ultra worldwide, the new flagship chipset brings a substantial NPU boost promising to transform AI experiences on smartphones. Its Qualcomm AI Engine introduces Multimodal Gen AI to users’ fingertips, unlocking a range of new possibilities and capabilities.

Snapdragon 8 Elite redefines mobile AI experiences with new advancements

The Snapdragon 8 Elite redefines mobile AI experiences and benefits with its groundbreaking capabilities. The Qualcomm AI Engine with multimodal Gen AI “revolutionizes interactions, understanding voice, text, and images, and now it can even see the world through your camera to help with tasks, ranging from everyday queries and
summarization to advanced content creation,” the chipmaker explains.

The chip bundles a 45% faster Hexagon NPU delivering 45% improved performance per watt. It pushes efficient AI performance to new heights. Its advanced AI processing capabilities can instantly make it an expert on any topic to help you learn stuff. The Snapdragon 8 Elite supports the largest global Gen AI model ecosystem, including large multimodal models (LMMs), large language models (LLMs), and large vision models (LVMs).

The integrated Qualcomm Sensing Hub understands the personal context for a more personalized AI experience. It allows your multimodal generative AI assistant to make suggestions and decisions based on your activities. The chip also introduces advanced AI-powered photography and editing features. Qualcomm designed a brand new AI ISP that seamlessly integrates with the Hexagon NPU for next-gen camera capabilities.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite also features built-in UWB (Ultra Wideband), a first for Qualcomm processors. Device makers like Samsung won’t have to equip their phones with a separate UWB chip. They can still block the feature via software restrictions, though we hope no one does. Samsung’s Ultra flagships have offered UWB support since the S21 Ultra. Plus models also boast UWB, but the base models have been missing it all this while.

With UWB now integrated into the chipset, the base Galaxy S25 could offer the feature. That’s if Samsung ships the new flagship with the Snapdragon 8 Elite. There are rumors about the smaller two models using the Exynos 2500 or DImensity 9400 or both. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, meanwhile, should run the Snapdragon 8 Elite globally. Expect more leaks with additional information in the coming weeks.
