Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) may bring some of the biggest usability improvements the Fold series has seen in years. According to a noted industry source who claims to have handled early samples of the device, the company has made major strides in two areas that have long held foldables back: weight and crease visibility. The wide foldable launches alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Fold 8 Ultra next month.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) could feel incredibly lightweight for its size

Samsung is expanding its Fold lineup this year, introducing a wider model with a 4:3 inner display. Leaks suggest the device will weigh around 200 grams, which is impressive considering its massive footprint. While its wider aspect ratio has attracted much of the attention so far, a new leak argues that weight may end up being the device’s biggest selling point.

According to the tipster, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 feels dramatically lighter than previous Fold models. The source describes the weight reduction as something that is difficult to appreciate on paper but immediately noticeable in person. Even compared to other foldables that weigh around 200 grams, Samsung’s wide foldable reportedly feels significantly lighter in daily use.

Part of that perception may come from Samsung’s redesigned proportions. The wider form factor is said to distribute the weight more naturally, making the phone feel less bulky despite its large foldable display. If these impressions hold true, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could address one of the most common complaints about book-style foldables: that they still feel too heavy compared to conventional smartphones.

Samsung may have finally tackled the crease as well

The second major improvement reportedly concerns the foldable display itself. According to the leak, Samsung has made significant progress in reducing the visibility and feel of the crease. The source claims the company has adopted a new display structure that not only offers greater stability and flexibility but also reduces the crease.

More importantly, the crease reportedly feels much closer to the surface of a traditional glass smartphone screen when touched. While it has not disappeared entirely, the source suggests it represents a substantial step forward compared to previous Fold generations. Earlier reports revealed that Samsung is using thicker UTG (ultra-thin glass) on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to make that happen.

The leaker believes the weight reduction and crease improvements are significant enough to make the Galaxy Z Fold 8 feel like the start of a new generation of foldables. They even suggest that the device has the potential to achieve strong sales if Samsung gets the pricing and marketing strategy right. With the official launch now just weeks away, we may not have to wait long to find out what the company has in store.
