Samsung to Supply Privacy Display to Rival Brands, but Galaxy S27 Pro Could Miss Out

A recent report suggested that Samsung could bring its new privacy display technology to the Galaxy S27 Pro, expanding the feature beyond the Ultra model. However, fresh information indicates that it may not happen after all. While Samsung is reportedly preparing to supply privacy displays to other smartphone brands in the coming years, the technology could remain exclusive to the Galaxy S27 Ultra in 2027.

Galaxy S27 Pro might miss out on Privacy Display

Debuted this year on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung’s Privacy Display tech reduces screen visibility from side viewing angles, making it harder for nearby people to see sensitive information. As smartphones increasingly handle payments, personal messages, banking details, and work-related content, this solution enhances screen privacy.

Recent reports suggested that Samsung may bring the tech to the Galaxy S27 Pro next year, alongside the S27 Ultra. The company is positioning the all-new Pro as an alternative to those who find the Ultra too bulky, so the choice made sense. However, fresh reports claim that Samsung intends to keep Privacy Display as an Ultra-exclusive feature, much like its anti-reflective display technology.

The reports also note that Samsung may further improve the technology before the Galaxy S27 series launches. Both the hardware and software components of the privacy feature are reportedly being refined, potentially making the next-generation implementation more effective than the current version. The solution does have some compromises on the S26 Ultra, so upgrades are welcome.

Samsung may supply the tech to rival brands

While Samsung could keep Privacy Display exclusive to the Ultra model for at least one more year, it reportedly has broader ambitions for the technology. Reports suggest the company plans to begin supplying the tech to other smartphone manufacturers by the end of 2028. We could eventually see it on an iPhone too, as Samsung is one of the primary suppliers of iPhone screens.

Several Android brands are also exploring similar solutions. Xiaomi and Honor are said to be testing hardware-based privacy screen technologies, although these efforts currently appear to be developed in-house rather than borrowed from Samsung.

Either way, Privacy Display could soon become a standard feature across premium smartphones. For now, however, Galaxy users hoping to see the technology on the Galaxy S27 Pro may need to temper expectations. Expect more details to emerge in the coming weeks.
