Galaxy XR Brings Immersive Experiences to Blood Donation

Samsung has brought a new experience in blood donation with its Galaxy XR headset. The Korean firm has teamed up with global healthcare company Abbott to offer immersive extended reality experiences for blood donors. This initiative strives to make the donation process more comfortable and engaging.
Samsung makes blood donation more comfortable with Galaxy XR
Samsung and Abbott conducted a Galaxy XR-powered blood donation campaign at Samsung Digital City in Suwon. The two companies organized the event in partnership with the Korean Red Cross. During the event, the Korean firm’s employees experienced immersive meditation content while donating blood. Korean Red Cross personnel helped them to ensure a seamless donation process.
The Galaxy XR headset makes a calming virtual environment to help donors relax. After putting on the headset, they enter a Zen garden-inspired environment. They can interact with the virtual world only through gaze-based input (without controllers or hand gestures). As the donation continues, flowers and trees bloom around them. In the background, music created in collaboration with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra plays.

Beyond the campaign in South Korea, Samsung and Abbott will introduce the Galaxy XR donation experience in several countries. The companies will host a four-day blood drive at the Augmented World Expo (AWE) in Long Beach, California, from June 15 to 18. As a result, thousands of attendees will get the XR donation experience.
Furthermore, the companies will spotlight the initiative at the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, later this month. More than 100 blood bank decision-makers will discuss the XR’s use cases. The goal is to expand initiative for donors, healthcare professionals, and blood bank organizations around the world
Samsung’s Galaxy XR is built on the new Android XR platform, which delivers natural, immersive experiences through conversational AI. The headset is available for purchase on the company’s US online store for $1,799.
