Here’s Our First Official Look at Samsung and Google’s Smart Glasses

The cat’s out of the bag. Samsung and Google used the stage at today’s Google I/O to pull the wraps off their first jointly developed smart glasses. Suffice it to say, it marks a major step in the evolution of Android XR devices.

Moreover, the first smart glasses by Samsung and Google are being introduced in collaboration with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster to offer premium designs. These glasses are built as lightweight companion devices that connect wirelessly to smartphones.
The smart glasses run Android XR and rely on Google Gemini for voice based assistance. They do not include a built in display, so users receive all responses through audio. The AI can understand what the user sees and provide helpful answers in real time based on the surrounding environment.
The glasses can also translate text in the user’s view, such as menus and signboards. Users can capture photos and videos using the onboard camera without taking out their phone. Samsung highlighted deep integration with its Galaxy ecosystem for a smoother overall experience.
When can you expect Google and Samsung’s debut smart glasses?
Samsung confirmed that the first models will launch this fall, but pricing details have not been revealed yet. More information is expected in the coming months as the release gets closer. Most importantly, these don’t have an official name yet, which leaves the room for guesses. So, Galaxy Glasses maybe?
In a statement, Jay Kim, EVP Head of the Customer Experience Office at Samsung MX said:
“This intelligent eyewear marks an important step in Samsung’s vision for AI. With this new AI form factor, we are further expanding the Galaxy device ecosystem, where each device is optimized to deliver unique AI experiences that best fit each form.”
On the other hand, Shahram Izadi, Vice President and GM of Android XR at Google added:
“Intelligent eyewear represents a powerful step forward in our shared vision with Samsung to make AI more helpful and accessible in everyday life. Combining the best of Google’s AI and the Android ecosystem together with Samsung’s leadership in mobile hardware and Gentle Monster and Warby Parker’s premium design, we are helping users stay connected and fashionable in a more natural, hands-free way.”
