As promised, Samsung has started a global rollout of the stable One UI 8.5 update today, May 11. The Galaxy S25 series is now picking up the update in the US, following an initial release in South Korea last week. Samsung should soon bring the new version to more devices worldwide.

Galaxy S25’s One UI 8.5 stable update arrives in the US

One UI 8.5 introduces a refreshed visual identity, smoother animations, and several usability improvements borrowed directly from the newer Galaxy S26 series. It also brings camera upgrades and new AI features. One of the most practical improvements in One UI 8.5 is the upgraded Quick Share experience. Samsung has finally enabled file sharing with iPhones via AirDrop.

The Korean firm has been testing this update for the S25 lineup since December last year. It recently kicked off a broader rollout, and the update is now here in the US. Carrier-locked Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Edge, and S25 Ultra units are receiving One UI 8.5 with firmware version CZDP. The update package weighs around 4.4GB for Ultra users who didn’t participate in the beta program.

Beta users, meanwhile, will get a much smaller file, less than 1GB (no beta for S25 Edge). The Galaxy S25 FE, which got beta access, should also soon join the party. The update size and build version may vary depending on the model and carrier variant, though. If you are using a Galaxy S25 model in the US, you may check for updates by following these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Scroll down and tap Software update
  3. Select Download and install

Availability is expanding in phases, meaning some regions could receive the update immediately while others may need to wait several days or weeks. If no update shows up today, wait for a while and check again. Considering the massive size of the update, you may want to connect your phone to Wi-Fi before downloading.
