Around two weeks ago, a report surfaced suggesting that Samsung is planning to restructure its business in China. A new report now all but confirms that Samsung is planning to exit the TV and home appliance market in the country before the end of this year.

Decision due soon on Samsung’s China TV and appliance business

According to a report from Nikkei, Samsung is expected to reach a final decision on this matter as early as the end of April. That means a decision could come within the next two or three days. If the move goes ahead, it would mark a significant pullback from a market where Samsung has faced increasing pressure in recent years.

The immediate impact would be that Samsung would stop selling TVs and home appliances in China. However, the report adds that Samsung may not completely shut down its presence in the country. The company is likely to continue operating its manufacturing facilities in China, using them as production bases for global exports. Products such as refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners would still be manufactured there for overseas markets.

The key challenge driving this potential decision appears to be intensifying competition from local brands. Chinese manufacturers have rapidly improved both pricing and product quality. This apparently made it harder for companies like Samsung to maintain a competitive edge. These domestic players are not only dominating their home market but are also expanding aggressively into international markets.

Despite the growing speculation, Samsung has not confirmed any final decision. The company states that it continuously reviews its global operations to adapt to changing market conditions. It also clarified that no concrete plans have been finalized regarding an exit from its TV and appliance business in China.
