This Patent Shows a Wider Version of the Galaxy Z TriFold

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold (review) has been a limited edition, and you can’t buy it from Samsung’s online store anymore. The website now says you can only visit a handful of Samsung Experience Stores to get one. It’s quite fun to use, and we can confirm that since we’ve procured a unit.
This summer, Samsung has more foldables coming. One of them will be a wider version of the Galaxy Z Fold, which may be called the Galaxy Z Wide Fold (tentative name). But someone has already imagined a hybrid of the Galaxy Z Wide Fold and the Galaxy Z TriFold. In simpler terms, a wider version of the Galaxy Z TriFold.
Wider Galaxy Z TriFold spotted in Samsung patent filing
A patent filed last year and published in March has surfaced for a “multi-foldable electronic device” (via NetworkRight). It’s essentially a Galaxy Z TriFold in disguise, except it’s much wider than what we see today. At first glance, the cover display has more of a passport-like form factor.
For what it’s worth, Samsung is one of the world’s most prolific patent filers. That can be both a good and a bad thing. Filing so many patents shows how much the company invests in research and development. At the same time, it also means many of those ideas may never translate into actual products.
Still, not everything goes to waste, and there’s a small chance we could see a wider version of the Galaxy Z TriFold someday. Much of that will depend on the popularity and sales of the Galaxy Z Wide Fold, which is likely to launch on July 22 in London alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8.
