Samsung Rolls Out September Update to Galaxy A25, Xcover 7

by | Sep 27, 2024 | Galaxy A, News, Updates

Samsung has released the September security update for a couple more Galaxy devices. The Galaxy A25 and Galaxy Xcover 7 follow dozens of other phones and tablets on this ever-growing list. Expect more models to join the party in the coming days, enhancing user security.

Galaxy A25 and Xcover 7 receive the September security update

The September Security Maintenance Release (SMR) includes 67 vulnerability fixes, addressing issues in Google’s Android OS and Samsung’s One UI. Galaxy devices have been picking up this update since early this month. Some received it with One UI 6.1.1, while Samsung pushed a separate update to others. It continues the rollout to cover more eligible models.

The Galaxy A25 and Galaxy Xcover 7, which aren’t eligible for One UI 6.1.1, are now getting the September security update. We can confirm the rollout in Europe for the former and Europe and Latin America for the latter. The new firmware build numbers are A256BXXS5BXI1 and G556BXXS5BXI1, respectively. It should be only a matter of time before Samsung pushes the update globally.

This update is all about security improvements, with no significant changes to the device’s functionality. Do not expect any new features here — not even One UI 6.1.1 goodies. However, Samsung is preparing a major feature update for Galaxy devices — the Android 15-based One UI 7.0. The new version should hit the beta stage next month followed by a public release later this year.

The Galaxy A25 and Galaxy Xcover 7 may not get beta updates but are likely to receive One UI 7.0 in early 2025 if not at the end of 2024. These devices are eligible for four years of OS updates and five years of security patches. Since they both run Android 14 out of the box, they will pick many feature updates going forward, up to Android 18. You can check for updates from the Settings app.
