The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is nearing its October launch date and leaks keep flowing in. We already know a volume of vital information about this flagship foldable and now we have the first look at its full design. Courtesy of Android Headlines, we now have a full view of the phone from behind, in unfolded form. There are a few key takeaways from this image. First, we notice that the phone looks much thinner than the Z Fold 6, pictured below for comparison. Samsung truly went back to the drawing board and created a book-style foldable that is not only thinner, but also has a wider cover display.
Camera Housing Details and Titanium Backplate
The camera housing on the rear also differs a bit from the Z Fold 6 design. Noticeably, the camera module is thicker than the housing found on the Z Fold 6. This suggests that we will indeed see a much improved primary sensor on the Z Fold Special Edition. Previous reports suggest that the 200MP sensor found on the S24 Ultra could be tapped for the Z Fold Special Edition. These reports align nicely with these leaked images. The camera module is also slightly less round than the Z Fold 6, which is likely a stylistic enhancement. The Z Fold Special Edition is also in line for an upgraded 5MP Under Display Camera for selfies.
Looking at the back texture, we see a brushed metal look. We previously reported than the Z Fold Special Edition will feature a titanium backplate. The phone is rumored to be just 10.6mm thick when folded and yet still support the signature S Pen for writing on the main display. If Samsung pulls off the perfect foldable, some users will be left out of the party. The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will arrive in China and Korea only and will not see a global launch. If you’re interested in this phone in the US, you’ll need to import it with limited 5G band support.
We plan to import the Z Fold Special Edition when it arrives, so stay tuned for all the launch details and our full review. If slab phones are more your style, sign up for our free Galaxy S25 Ultra mystery box program to get free accessories at launch.
