Samsung has rolled out its August security update for the Galaxy S22 series, bringing the latest security patches and performance optimizations to the 2022 flagships. The update is currently available to users with a carrier-locked unit in the US. A broader rollout, including unlocked US units, should follow soon. Samsung has already updated several other Galaxy devices to the August security patch, including the Galaxy S24 series.

The Galaxy S22 series receives the August update in the US

The latest update for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra focuses on enhancing system stability and patching vulnerabilities identified in the Android OS and Samsung’s custom software. While it doesn’t introduce any new features, the phones are picking up fixes for various security flaws. Samsung has already revealed that this month’s security patch addresses 50 vulnerabilities, including two critical flaws.

As of this writing, the US carrier-locked units are receiving the August SMR (Security Maintenance Release) with the firmware build number S90*USQS6EXG8. Samsung should soon expand the rollout globally. The Galaxy S22 trio should pick up a new Android 14-based One UI 6.1 update with Galaxy AI features and other goodies later this month. Or maybe the Korean firm will make us wait till September, we shall find out in a few weeks. Its Android 15-based One UI 7.0 beta update has also been delayed indefinitely, so you never know.

Nonetheless, Samsung’s monthly security updates keep its devices secure against the latest threats. These releases are an essential part of maintaining your Galaxy phone or tablet’s health. You should update your devices as soon as possible to stay protected against any potential security risks. Navigate to Settings > Software update > Download and install to check for updates. Keep your phone charged and connected to a stable Wi-Fi network for a smooth installation process.
