Samsung has announced a major leadership change, assigning new roles to its current smartphone chief, TM Roh. Alongside leading the Mobile Experience (MX) division, Roh will also serve as the new chief of Samsung DX (TV and home appliances). This transition follows the unexpected passing of JH Han last week. Han previously led the DX division.
TM Roh steps into a larger role as Samsung announces new leaders
TM Roh has been leading Samsung’s mobile business since 2020, playing a key role in advancing the Galaxy smartphone lineup. Now, he will take on the broader responsibility of overseeing not just mobile devices but also Samsung’s home appliances and TV business. In addition, he will head the Quality Innovation Committee, a position previously held by Han.
Samsung says Roh will be the acting chief of the DX division until it appoints a permanent leader. The company is prioritizing organizational stability, ensuring a smooth transition during this leadership shift. By placing an experienced executive like TM Roh at the helm, the company aims to maintain continuity and innovation across all product categories.
The Korean firm also made a couple of other leadership changes. Choi Won-jun, previously Development Director and Global Operations Team Leader at both DX and MX divisions, has been given an additional role as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of both divisions. Kim Cheol-gi, formerly the Director of Samsung MX’s Strategic Marketing Office, has been promoted to Head of Samsung’s Digital Appliances (DA) division.
This leadership reshuffle comes on the same day Samsung announced a new CDO (Chief Design Offier). Former PepsiCo design officer Mauro Porcini has joined the Korean firm to give the Galaxy ecosystem and refreshed look. With these changes, the company aims to reinforce its global competitiveness. All eyes will now be on how TM Roh and his team steer Samsung’s future.
