Hearing loss impacts millions worldwide. Nearly 1 in every 5 people affected, according to WHO. While it presents challenges, one thing I appreciate about tech is how it enhances accessibility. One such example is an upcoming extension of Android’s Fast Pair feature to hearing aids.
Android’s Fast Pair might soon bring support for hearing aids
Fast Pair simplifies Bluetooth connections on Android devices by detecting nearby devices and displaying a Connect button, allowing users to pair devices with a single tap — without the need to dig through settings. Currently, Fast Pair supports earbuds, speakers, wearables, Android TVs, and Chrome OS devices. But hearing aids aren’t yet part of the mix.
However, a recent APK teardown of Google Play Services beta v24.50.32 by Android Authority suggests that hearing aids may soon be added to Fast Pair’s roster. A new setting fast_pair_enable_hearing_aid_pairing
found under the HEARING_AID category, points to this upcoming support. Additionally, a leaked screenshot showing a list of compatible devices further supports the idea. You can check out the screenshot attached below.
No official confirmation from Google yet, but hopefully it’s coming sooner
While Google has yet to confirm the feature officially, this development aligns with the platform’s growing focus on hearing aid compatibility. Earlier, Android 15 introduced support for Bluetooth LE Audio (LEA) and Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids (ASHA) protocols, which significantly enhance audio quality and functionality for these devices.
But that’s not all. The beta code also hints at potential Fast Pair support for Bluetooth keyboards. Although there’s no official timeline for these updates, enabling Fast Pair for hearing aids would certainly make Android a more inclusive platform. If and when it arrives, it will make technology accessible to even more people. So, the bottom line? If you have hearing aids, you’ll have even more reasons to love Android.
