Amid the recent turmoil with TikTok, which faced a total shutdown on Saturday night but was revived the very next day, X is looking to capitalize. In the tech world, one companyโs loss is another companyโs gain. Several apps are already rolling out changes as early as today. X competitor Bluesky has introduced a TikTok-style short video feed. And now, X has its own vertical video feed with a dedicated tab in the app.
X now has a dedicated tab for TikTok-style vertical videos
X is catching up with TikTok, as it remains one of the most popular social media platforms, boasting an impressive user base. The app announced the addition in a post, describing it as โan immersive new home for videos.โ However, the catch isโฆ itโs only available in the US for now. We donโt yet know when X (if at all) plans to roll out the feature in other countries. In a 10-second clip attached to the announcement, we see a TikTok-style feed with a dedicated tab at the bottom of X.

In related news, shortly after TikTok was briefly banned in the US, Elon Musk raised concerns. Writing on X, he argued that banning TikTok in the US would violate freedom of speech and expression. In the same post, he also mentioned that the TikTok ban could benefit X, which he owns. Musk also took a shot at China, saying that โTikTok is allowed to operate in America, but X is not allowed in China.โ He called this situation โunbalanced.โ
X users can scroll through short videos by tapping on a video in their timeline and swiping up. The new tab serves as a dedicated space for these videos. This isnโt the companyโs first attempt at creating a hub for video content. In fact, itโs done something before, calling it an โimmersive media viewerโ back in October 2022, when it was still Twitter.
