T-Mobile made a big announcement, in partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink, to bring satellite messaging to the US. It’s now open to everyone in the US, with support for several Galaxy phones. You don’t even need to be using T-Mobile to use the service as it’s also available for even those with an AT&T or Verizon carrier service. Best of all, it’s completely free until July, so there’s no reason to not give it a shot.
When you’re in an area without cell coverage, your phone will automatically connect to a Starlink satellite, allowing you to send text messages as usual. No special phone or extra setup is required. Right now, it’s limited to text messaging, but photo messages, voice calls, and data will be available soon. The service aims to cover over 500,000 square miles where traditional cell towers can’t reach. “If you see the sky, you can connect,” says Mike Katz, T-Mobile’s President of Marketing, Strategy, and Products. But which Galaxy phones are compatible with T-Mobile’s Starlink beta?
