WhatsApp frequently introduces multiple new features to improve the messaging and calling experience for users. It is now rolling out a host of new features across chats, calls, and channels. These features are available for both iPhone and Android devices, though some users may have to wait for a few days until the rollout is complete.
In a blog post, WhatsApp has confirmed that it is rolling out a new update to make conversations and calls more enjoyable and improve the Channels experience. The update includes many new features, such as an online indicator in group chats, pinch-to-zoom in video calls, and more. We will explain all the latest additions below.
All the latest WhatsApp features
Speaking of the chat sections, it has added a new online indicator right under the group name. It shows you how many people are currently active in the group chat. You can now prioritize group chat notifications using the Notify For option. It lets you select specific highlights to limit notifications for @mentions and replies. You can also choose to get notifications only for messages from within your contacts or choose to get all of the notifications.
The Events feature already lets you add events in groups. Now, you can create events in a normal 1:1 conversation. On top of that, you can also pin the event in the chat, add specific dates and times for longer invites, and more. Previously, if you wanted to react to a message, you had to long-press on the specific message. Now, you can simply tap to react and also view othersโ reactions more easily.
The update adds a dedicated call tab, where you can share call links and manage call history. From an ongoing 1-1 call, you can directly add someone else to a call and turn it into a conference call. Just select โAdd to callโ from the chat thread. WhatsApp also claims that the update will make video calls smoother and more optimized.
The update also adds Video Notes for channels, allowing notes of up to one minute in length. If you are in a channel that sends voice messages, you can automatically get a transcript of it. Another feature for channels is the option to create a unique QR Code that you can share with others to join your channel.
