What Happened to Samsung? No One UI 7.0 Beta at SDC Korea

by | Nov 21, 2024 | News, One UI

Ah Samsung, here we go again. Back to square one. Last night, Samsung held its Korea-specific Developer Conference (SDC24 Korea), where topics like genAI, software, IoT, and healthcare were touched upon at length.

Throughout the SDC Korea, we were waiting for some updates on Android 15-based One UI 7.0. Rumors suggest it’s coming soon, but there was no official word from the company.

Not even a clue about One UI 7.0 at SDC Korea

While SDC Korea featured a notable panel and lineup of speakers, there was no mention of One UI 7.0. There was no word on the potential release timeline either. The word on the street was Samsung might start rolling out One UI 7.0 soon after the SDC Korea event.

This seemed likely, especially since Samsung didn’t release the One UI 7.0 beta following its annual Developer Conference in October.

What did Samsung talk about instead during SDC Korea?

The event wasn’t all smoke and mirrors, though. It became clear why Samsung didn’t spill the beans or provide details on One UI 7.0. It didn’t mention anything, but it was us who were lowkey expecting something concrete.

Instead, Samsung pulled off the curtain on Gauss 2, an updated version of its proprietary GenAI model with enhanced performance. Gauss 2 is a step up from last year’s Gauss 1. It can juggle different types of data simultaneously, such as language, code, and images.

Samsung offers Gauss 2 in three models: Compact, Balanced, and Supreme. The top two models outperform leading open-source AI models in areas like multilingual responses and coding tasks, company said. In case you’d like to watch a recap of the event, follow this link.

While Samsung has hit the pause button on the One UI 7.0 beta rollout for eligible devices, the good news is that this hasn’t stopped tipsters from letting the cat out of the bag about what’s coming. Several features in the pipeline suggest a major overhaul, including a redesigned Lock Screen, the new NowBar, fresh Camera features, and a slew of AI enhancements. So we better now just pray to phone lords to see these rumors come to our Galaxy phones, and come soon.
