Samsung is rumored to launch its first rollable smartphone next year, marking its entry into rollable technology. Now, the Korean firm appears to be taking a step further, with a newly surfaced patent suggesting the development of a rollable tablet.

Samsung’s next big move could be a rollable phone or rollable tablet

A few months ago, a report suggested that Samsung is developing a smartphone with a rollable display that could be launched next year. Well, we have additional information on the matter. A new patent application from the Korean firm shows a rollable tablet featuring a design that stands out from current market tablets.

The patent document suggests that the device would have a large rectangular display on the front. It may be thicker than conventional tablets, but what truly distinguishes this tablet is its expandable display. It can extend from both sides, providing an enlarged viewing area when needed.

First spotted by 91Mobiles.com, the patent shows the device from various angles, including those where the display extends from both the right and left. This rollable screen could automatically expand during specific tasks that require more screen space. When not needed, it could retract back to its normal, compact form, offering both versatility and a unique user experience.

There may also be a physical button or software tool to extend the screen whenever the user wants. One of the drawings shows the bottom portion of the tablet will have a Type-C port for charging. The patent document lacks specific details about the dimensions of this rollable Samsung tablet.

Samsung has yet to confirm plans to launch a tablet with an extendable display, leaving its future uncertain. The company is actively investing in modernizing to strengthen its position, making it likely that news of a rollable model could emerge soon. At the moment, it’s unclear if the rumors rollable smartphone and the device shown in this patent are different products. Expect more details in the coming months.
