Samsung debuted in the smart ring segment earlier this year with the Galaxy Ring. While the new wearable offers a number of health-centric features, it is far from perfect. For example, due to the tricky nature of smart rings, Samsung had to introduce it in 9 sizes to fit different finger sizes. However, the South Korean tech giant seems to have solved the sizing problem. The company has patented a new design, which could allow a single Galaxy Ring 2 to fit all fingers.
Samsung’s Galaxy Ring 2 could fit all finger sizes, suggests a new patent
Folks over at GalaxyClub have spotted a patent for a new design for Samsung smart rings. If it could become a commercial product, the patent could allow the Galaxy Ring 2 to be adjustable according to different finger sizes. The company filed this patent at KIPRIS in December 2023. However, it was published just earlier this week. The patent describes a mechanism for a smart ring, which consists of an inner band that flexes and can adjust to fit different ring sizes.
Only the inner band of the smart ring could change its size, suggests the patent
It’s worth mentioning that the patent mentions that only the inner band of this ring will be able to change its size. This means that the outer layer would maintain its diameter. However, this design will allow a single smart ring to fit the fingers of all users. This means that Samsung will not have to launch the Ring 2 in as many as 9 sizes as the original one. This design could also allow the users to share their single ring with others as it would fit all finger sizes.
Do not forget that not all designs in the patents make it to commercial products. So, there’s a possibility that Samsung could have a different design in the works for the Galaxy Ring 2. But, we do like the idea of an adjustable smart ring. What about you? What do you think about this unique ring design? Tell us in the comments.
