Samsung teased a concept ball-shaped AI-powered robot called Ballie at CES 2020. It has been more than five years, yet the company has not made it available for purchase. However, during its CES 2025 keynote, Samsung revealed that Ballie will be available for purchase in the US later this year. And now, Samsung’s latest SmartThings ad suggests that the release of Ballie is imminent.
Ballie makes an appearance in Samsung’s latest SmartThings Ad
Samsung recently posted a video ad for SmartThings on its YouTube channel, describing it as, “With SmartThings, your home life can become simpler and more comfortable, giving you greater peace of mind.” In the video that advertises SmartThings, Samsung showcases the technology for a minute and a half. It explains how SmartThings uses Samsung’s AI technology to automate smart home devices. The video shows existing Samsung home appliances, but Ballie is shown near the end as well, and it displays a “Welcome” sign on the floor.
This suggests Samsung will release Ballie soon, at least in the US, as promised. We can expect its release around July, probably during the second Galaxy Unpacked of 2025. As of now, there is no official information on the cost of the AI robot as well as its worldwide availability.
Speaking of Ballie, this ball-shaped AI robot has a lot of practical use cases. It follows you around your home and listens to voice commands. The robot can answer phone calls, project workout videos, and set the mood for any activity at home. You can use it to get reminders about tasks on your to-do list as well. The robot has a pair of cameras and built-in speakers while carrying a mini projector. It can project photos or images on your floors and walls. It offers similar use cases to a virtual assistant on your phone. You can ask it about the weather, stream movies, get information from Samsung Health, manage smart home devices, etc.
