Samsung has some thrilling plans in store, especially for 2025. While the Galaxy S25 series launch in January and the tri-fold device debut are already exciting, there’s more on the horizon. Samsung is also rumored to be working on a wearable XR device.
Some reports hint that this could be the wildcard at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22. If luck is on our side, we might just catch a glimpse of it during the event.
The rumored XR wearable is coming in Q3 2025
According to a new report from Korean outlet Sedaily, Samsung’s XR wearable device might not see the light of day until the second half of 2025. This means it could debut in the third quarter (Q3), possibly during the second Galaxy Unpacked event. This is where the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Fold 7, and more could be released. The Q3 2025 release timeline corroborates previous reports.
Some speculate that Samsung could introduce a competitor to Meta’s Ray-Ban next year, while others believe the company plans to challenge Apple Vision Pro. Either way, it’s best to wait until the picture becomes clearer. However, leaked specs hinting at the absence of a display make it more likely that Samsung is indeed preparing wearable AR smart glasses.
Samsung plans a total of 50,000 units of its XR wearable
No matter how impressive XR devices appear, they still cater to a niche audience. Apple’s foray into the XR space with the Vision Pro reportedly flopped, according to industry trackers. It’s a cautionary tale that seems to have made Samsung tread carefully with its own plans.
To start, Samsung is gearing up to mass-produce its XR headset with an initial run of 20,000 units in the third quarter of 2025. If the device performs well, production could ramp up with an additional 30,000 units in the fourth quarter, bringing the total to 50,000 units for the year.
