Samsung Display may soon launch a revolutionary new product. The Korean firm is reportedly in the “final stages” of developing the world’s fastest OLED panel with a remarkable 500Hz refresh rate. It could make gaming monitors featuring this ultra-fast OLED screen.
Samsung aims to revolutionize gaming monitors with a 500Hz OLED panel
While the display industry has already seen LCD panels with a 500Hz refresh rate, no firm has yet made an OLED screen that can display 500 images in a second, at least not commercially. The maximum refresh rate achieved for OLED displays is 480Hz by LG. The Korean firm started the mass production of this 27-inch display in August.
Its compatriot Samsung is going one up with a 500Hz OLED panel. It is also a 27-inch quantum dot (QD)-OLED panel, ETnews reports, adding that the screen boasts a QHD (2560×1440) resolution. For reference, the existing 500Hz LCD screens only offer an FHD (1920×1080) resolution. This makes Samsung’s new display superior in picture quality.
While Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed this display product, suggesting it isn’t yet ready for mass production, the Korean media says the company is close to officially releasing the new OLED panel. It is allegedly in talks with “major monitor manufacturers” to commercially release the display in the first half of next year. A more precise launch timeline isn’t available.
This OLED display could revolutionize gaming monitors with ultra-smooth gameplay. Samsung’s display technology is already regarded as one of the best in the world, with the firm supplying smartphone screens to several global brands, including Apple. Its new 500Hz OLED panel could further bolster its reputation in the industry.
If Samsung is close to commercializing this display solution, we might see some devices with this panel at CES 2025. The mega electronics show runs from January 7 to 10, 2025, in Las Vegas, USA.
