Last night, Samsung confirmed the official rollout roadmap for One UI 7.0, a surprising and welcome announcement for many of whoโve been waiting. According to Samsung, the rollout begins on April 7. The Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6 will be the first to receive the update. The Galaxy S23 series and other eligible devices will shortly follow after.
Samsung may have killed all hopes for Now Brief on older devices, even with One UI 7.0
While this was supposed to be good news, one detail stood out as a potential disappointment for those expecting the Now Brief feature in the One UI 7.0 stable update. Samsung mentioned Now Bar but made no mention of Now Brief in its official One UI 7.0 announcement. Whether this is due to technical limitations or a strategy to keep the feature exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series remains unclear.
We flagged this concern when reporting on the One UI 7.0 roadmap. For those unfamiliar, Now Brief delivers a personalized feed of updates based on app usage and activity. Itโs currently exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series, appearing as a pill-shaped bar at the bottom of the lock screen.
Now Brief is said to run on Personal Data Engine, which uses machine learning to analyze user behavior dynamically. Sally Hyesoon Jeong, EVP of Samsungโs Framework R&D Team, previously stated that older Galaxy phones lack the necessary processing power.
โAI features that utilize on-device processing, such as a personal data engine, require advanced chipsets and hardware like those in the Galaxy S25 Series with Snapdragon 8 Elite,โ she said. That strongly suggested Now Brief wouldnโt come to the Galaxy S24 series even with One UI 7.0 stable. And its absence from the One UI 7.0 announcement dashes out any left expectation.
