Samsung has begun rolling out its September security update to more Galaxy devices. The Galaxy S23 series recently picked up the latest security patch. This rollout will gradually extend to other models globally, including in the US. The company has already updated a handful of those.
Galaxy S23 series blessed with the September security update
Samsung started deploying the September SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to eligible Galaxy devices early this month. The latest release contains 67 vulnerability patches addressing various security issues across Android OS and Samsung’s One UI. At least one of these patches addresses a critical issue, potentially allowing threat actors to access your device remotely.
Over the past few weeks, several Samsung smartphones and tablets received the September patch. Some picked it up with the One UI 6.1.1 update, while others received it separately. The Galaxy S23’s One UI 6.1.1 rollout outside South Korea didn’t bring the latest SMR. The Korean firm is now rolling out a new update to ensure that the devices are protected against the latest vulnerabilities.
The Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra are receiving the September update in Europe and India with the firmware build number S91*BXXS6CXHA. This update primarily focuses on security improvements and does not introduce any significant new features. Well, it comes right on the heels of One UI 6.1.1, so don’t expect anything more. The next feature update is Android 15-based One UI 7.0.
Samsung is expected to begin One UI 7.0 beta testing in October, with the stable update following later this year. In the meantime, watch out for new security patches on your Galaxy phone. You should receive a notification when an update becomes available for your device. If not, you can manually check for it by following these steps: open the Settings app on your device, go to Software update, then select Download and install.
