Samsung’s One UI 7.0 update, currently available in beta for the Galaxy S24 series in some markets, introduced support for call transcriptions. The company may now be preparing to enhance this feature with AI-powered call summaries. Newly spotted code strings suggest Samsung will use AI to summarize your call transcriptions. It could roll out with the One UI 7.1 update.
Samsung phones may soon summarize your calls with AI
The folks over at Android Authority recently looked into the latest version of Samsung’s Voice Recorder app (version 21.5.70.78) and discovered a few interesting lines of code. The company appears to be working on a new function to summarize call transcriptions using AI. When enabled, supported Galaxy devices will automatically create a summary of the transcriptions.
For the feature to work, you must have call recording and call transcription enabled. Your phone will first record your call, transcribe it to give you a text version of your conversation, and then create a summary of everything you discussed in the call. By default, the transcription will be processed online. However, Samsung will allow you to block online processing by enabling “Process data only on device” within Galaxy AI settings.
This is an existing setting and applies to all Galaxy AI features. Some tools like generative photo editing require online processing, so enabling this setting also blocks those tools. Samsung doesn’t let you separately manage cloud access for each Galaxy AI tool. Rest assured, the company doesn’t store your data after processing.
This AI call summary function could roll out with Samsung’s One UI 7.1 update expected to debut with the Galaxy S25 series later this month, potentially on January 22. Or maybe the next One UI 7.0 beta update will bring it. The new build could arrive this week. Samsung may not expand the beta program to other devices.
