Samsung Prepares New QD-OLED Monitors with Advanced VESA Certifications

by | Jan 1, 2025 | Display, News

Samsung is gearing up to unveil a bunch of new products at CES 2025. The list could include QD-OLED monitors with the latest ClearMR 21000 certification from VESA for reduced motion blur. The annual electronics show in Las Vegas, USA, kicks off on January 7.

Samsung’s next-gen monitors could feature VESA ClearMR 21000 certification

The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) recently announced updates to its ClearMR and DisplayHDR True Black 1000 standards. These updates enable displays to achieve up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness for HDR content. They provide consumers with the assurance that certified products have successfully passed a robust set of test criteria and represent a premium standard for OLED HDR displays.

Additionally, VESA is introducing three new tiers of its Clear Motion Ratio metric: ClearMR 15000, ClearMR 18000, and ClearMR 21000. A higher number indicates a greater ratio of clear pixels, with ClearMR 21000 representing 195 times more clear pixels than blurred pixels. In other words, it allows for reduced motion blur.

The updated VESA standards will go official at CES 2025. Samsung is preparing to unveil a wide range of Odyssey series gaming monitors at the mega electronics show next week. Some of those could feature QLED screens, while others are likely to use QD-OLED panels. The new Samsung monitors are expected to come equipped with the latest VESA standards.

“Samsung Display is committed to delivering the best possible OLED and QD-OLED displays to our customers. To enable this, we are working closely with VESA to certify and establish new standards, including DisplayHDR TrueBlack 1000 and ClearMR 21000,” said Hojung Lee of Samsung Display. This statement all but confirms the plans.

Samsung will also bring new home appliances, including home heat pump systems, at CES 2025. Additionally, it plans to reveal its AI ambitions for the future. Its C-Lab startup incubation platform will exhibit 15 innovative ideas across AI, digital health, IoT, robotics, and more fields.
