Samsung Plans a Slimmer Design for the Galaxy S25 FE

by | Oct 11, 2024 | Galaxy S, News

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series is gradually becoming the talk of the tech town. The company will launch three new flagship models in early 2025, but a fourth S25 model is also in the works. Reports suggest the Galaxy S25 FE has entered development, with the Korean firm aiming to make it slimmer than the S24 FE. The “slim” Fan Edition phone is still about a year away from release.

Galaxy S25 FE might be slimmer than the current model

A couple of weeks ago, Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 FE featuring a 6.7-inch display. The device is larger than its predecessor, allowing for a bigger battery in a slimmer profile — it’s 8mm thick and packs a 4,700mAh battery, while the S23 FE has a 4,500mAh battery and an 8.2mm thickness. The company allegedly plans to make the next Fan Edition model even slimmer.

While details are scarce, except that the S25 FE has an unchanged 6.7-inch display, the plan is to offer a more premium feel. Samsung is already rumored to cut the thickness of the upcoming Galaxy S25 flagships. All three models are 0.4mm slimmer than their predecessors, making them the thinnest phones in their respective segments. It likely wants to redesign the Galaxy S25 FE similarly.

Early rumors suggest the 2025 Fan Edition model will use a MediaTek processor. Samsung seemingly wants to increase the share of MediaTek chips in its phones, reducing the dependency on Qualcomm. There are also some unconfirmed rumors of the base Galaxy S25 running MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400. It may use the Dimensity as a replacement for the Exynos 2500, which faces yield issues.

Interestingly, the Galaxy S24 FE ran the Exynos 2400e globally, making it the first S series phone in a decade to feature an Exynos chip in the US. Maybe the ongoing yield issues are too big for Samsung to secure a competitive Exynos processor for the Galaxy S25 FE. It’s very early to confirm anything, though. The company has ample time to make thoughtful decisions, so stay tuned for more info.
