Samsung’s delayed One UI 7.0 rollout could have a ripple effect throughout the year. Reports suggest the company will cancel One UI 7.1 and 7.1.1. Instead, it might introduce One UI 7.0.1 with its upcoming foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7.
Samsung to cancel One UI 7.1 and 7.1.1, introduce One UI 7.0.1 with new foldables
Samsung typically introduced One UI x.0 with its Android 15 update late in the year and followed up with One UI x.1 during the new Galaxy S launch early in the new year. Its Galaxy Z series foldables then shipped with One UI x.1.1 around July or August. However, a delayed One UI 7.0 release has broken this pattern.
Ideally, One UI 7.0 should have debuted last year, and the Galaxy S25 series should have shipped with One UI 7.1. Then, Samsung should have introduced One UI 7.1.1 with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 later this year. But mid-way through February, Samsung has yet to begin the One UI 7.0 rollout. While it did introduce the new version with the Galaxy S25 series, older models might have to wait until April or May.
This essentially means there will be no One UI 7.1 update this year. If a new SamMobile report is accurate, Samsung might even cancel One UI 7.1.1, instead shipping the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 with One UI 7.0.1. It might not be an as big update as last year’s One UI 6.1.1.
To be honest, all of this makes sense considering the massive delay in the One UI 7.0 rollout. Reliable Samsung insider Ice Universe recently confirmed rumors about the company planning three more beta builds before the stable release. In fact, rumors suggest the One UI 7.0 build shipped with the Galaxy S25 may not be the final version. Samsung is still internally working on further stability and functional improvements.
Long story short, One UI 7.0 is still several months away, and do not expect another major update until the Android 16-based One UI 8.0, which would do incredibly well to debut this year. Even Galaxy S25 Ultra users may not be running the most desirable One UI 7.0 version. Stick around for more information.
