Samsung has begun teasing its upcoming Galaxy S25 series, officially naming the next-generation flagship in its latest earnings report. The company also confirmed the ongoing development of an XR device and hinted at plans for more affordable foldable phones.
Galaxy AI will take the Galaxy AI experience to new heights, Samsung teases
A few days ago, Samsung apologized to investors for its poor financial performance in the third quarter of 2024. Although it made nearly $7 billion in profit in the quarter, it fell short of expectations. As usual, the company has now shared a detailed earnings report for the period, breaking down the performance of each business division. The report also includes its business outlook for the upcoming year.
The outlook provides the first official confirmation of the upcoming flagships slated for launch “in the first half of next year”. The mobile division “plans to pursue sales growth and profitability improvement centered on flagships such as the Galaxy S25 series and foldables based on the advancement of Galaxy AI,” Samsung said (translated from Korean). The devices “will enhance the perfection of the Galaxy AI experience to drive daily innovation.”
Additionally, Samsung’s latest earnings report mentions its unreleased XR (extended reality) headset that it’s developing in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm. “With the Galaxy Ring launched this year, the company plans to contribute to the expansion of Samsung’s health ecosystem and enhance the connectivity experience between its products, including the upcoming XR device,” the Korean firm said.
In a separate earnings call, Samsung allegedly talked about cheaper foldables too. “We are considering ways to lower entry barriers so that more customers can actually experience foldable products, given the high satisfaction among existing foldable users,” X user @Jukanlosreve quotes an official statement. Interestingly, the firm recently suggested that it doesn’t plan to make affordable foldables, instead focusing on enhancing the user experience.
That said, there have been rumors about Samsung exploring new foldable devices for 2025. It is allegedly planning four folding phones and a folding tablet for the next year. “We are also preparing new form factors to deliver a more powerful and innovative mobile experience,” the company said. It appears to have a lot in store for the coming months. Time will tell whether these new products help improve its financial performance.
