Samsung Might Use MediaTek’s New Dimensity 8450 in a Mid-Range Galaxy

MediaTek has unveiled a new premium mid-range smartphone processor, the Dimensity 8450. It could power a Samsung Galaxy phone in the coming months. While neither party has confirmed this, Samsung’s presence at the launch event strongly suggests the firms are cooking something.
MediaTek’s Dimensity 8450 may power a Samsung mid-ranger
The Dimensity 8450 was officially announced at the company’s MediaTek India Dimensity Summit. Notably, Samsung sent its representatives to attend the event, sparking speculation that the company may adopt the chip for future Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The Korean firm has been increasing the share of MediaTek processors in Galaxy devices, likely to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm. If it continues the practice, we could see the Dimensity 8450 power some mid-range Galaxy models in late 2025 or early 2026.
Positioned as a slightly enhanced version of the Dimensity 8400 launched last year, the new SoC brings subtle but meaningful improvements in gaming and imaging performance. Well, the CPU configuration remains unchanged, with the chip featuring an all-big-core design. However, the Dimensity 8450 introduces software-level enhancements that improve overall performance:
StartSpeed Engine in the GPU improves real-world gaming smoothness and efficiency, while enhanced ISP boosts photo and video quality, especially during live-streaming and in low-light scenarios. Coupled with other minor enhancements, the Dimensity 8450 turns out to be a compelling premium mid-range chipset. It may be a slightly more powerful alternative to Samsung’s own Exynos 1580 should the company decide to diversify its chip suppliers.
Long story short, this MediaTek chip could be a sweet spot for a Galaxy A5x or Galaxy Tab S Lite model, or something in that range. Of course, this is pure speculation as of now. Samsung hasn’t confirmed any product with the Dimensity 8450 yet, and we may never see it inside a Galaxy in the future. We will keep you posted if more details emerge.
