Samsung Messages Brings Edit Message on RCS and Auto Delete OTPs

Samsungโ€™s latest Galaxy S25 phones come preloaded with Google Messages, although you can still install Samsung Messages through the Galaxy Store. While Samsung announced that it is โ€œsunsettingโ€ Samsung Messages in favor of Google Messages, we reported about RCS support in Samsung Messages on our Galaxy S25 Ultra running One UI 7.0 last week.

Shortly after, Samsung told SammyGuru that โ€œthere may be certain feature limitations related to RCS with Samsung Messages, depending on your carrier network.โ€ Despite this, Samsung continues to roll out new features for Samsung Messages, including the ability to edit messages and automatically delete OTPs.

Samsung Messages gets the ability to edit messages on RCS

Samsung announced on one of its Korean websites (via Android Authority) that Galaxy devices running One UI 7 now support edit sent messages. To use the feature, simply press and hold a sent message, select Edit, update the message, and tap Send. Edited messages will display a tag, and tapping it will reveal the edit history. You can edit a message up to three times within 15 minutes of sending it. It is worth noting that Samsung does not mention that these features will come to regions outside of Korea. The screenshots shown show functionality contained in the Samsung Messages app in Korea, which uses Chat+, the super-charged Korean version of RCS chat.

While Samsung didnโ€™t clarify whether this feature works with all types of messages, itโ€™s likely limited to RCS messages. Unlike SMS, the RCS Universal Profile 2.7 standard supports message editing. However, this feature is exclusive to Galaxy phones running One UI 7. Since One UI 7 hasnโ€™t rolled for most devices yet, you can use Google Messages to edit messages.

Samsung Messages now auto deletes your OTPs

Samsung Messages is also introducing an auto-delete feature for OTP messages, which can often clutter your inbox. Once enabled, OTP messages will be moved to trash after 24 hours and permanently deleted after 30 days. To enable, open Samsung Messages, go to the three-dot menu, tap More Settings, and toggle on Auto delete OTP messages. This feature is available in Samsung Messages app v16.0.01.22 (h/t Mishaal Rahman). We will have to wait and see if and when these features roll out to other regions, including the United States.
