Samsung Makes Viewing Saved Wi-Fi Passwords Easier with One UI 7.0

by | Dec 20, 2024 | News, One UI

One UI 7.0 introduced several changes to Samsung’s custom software, enhancing the overall Galaxy experience. One key change makes it more convenient to view saved Wi-Fi passwords. You can now use biometric authentication to see the passwords. Earlier, it required you to enter your unlock PIN or pattern.

One UI 7.0 lets you see saved Wi-Fi passwords with biometric authentication

When you connect to a password-protected Wi-Fi network, your Galaxy phone saves its password. This allows you to reconnect to the same network later without manually entering the password again unless the password has been changed. This feature exists on almost all smartphones. It can also be helpful when sharing Wi-Fi passwords with others.

On Galaxy phones, you can see saved Wi-Fi passwords from the Settings app. Navigate to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > More options (three dots in the top right corner of the screen) > Advanced settings > Manage networks, and then tap a Wi-Fi network’s name to see its password. To avoid potential issues, Samsung requires you to verify your identity.

On One UI 6.1 or older, you need to enter your phone’s PIN or pattern to see saved Wi-Fi passwords. This is despite most devices offering biometric authentication. There’s no option to use fingerprint or face unlocking to verify your identity. Manually entering the PIN or pattern can be annoying at times.

Samsung finally fixed this issue with One UI 7.0. The Android 15-based update, which is currently in beta, allows you to see Wi-Fi passwords with biometric authentication. You can use your fingerprint or face unlocking to verify your identity. Interestingly though, Samsung removed the PIN/pattern option. It’s unclear why users can’t have all of these verification methods.

Maybe PIN or pattern unlocking will be back with upcoming beta builds or the final One UI 7.0 update. Samsung is expected to roll out Beta 3 next week. It may also roll out beta programs for more devices later this month. The stable update arrives with the Galaxy S25 series, which may launch on January 22.
