Samsung Launches Galaxy Chromebook Plus: Slim, Fast and AI-Enhanced

by | Oct 2, 2024 | Galaxy Book, News

Samsung just launched the thinnest and lightest Chromebook Plus ever. The Galaxy Chromebook Plus is just 11.8mm (0.46 inches) thick and weighs 1.17 kg (2.58 pounds) while sporting a large 15.6-inch OLED display, full keyboard, and a sizable battery rated to last up to 13 hours on a single charge. It goes on sale later this month.

Galaxy Chromebook Plus is thin, lightweight, and fairly powerful

Powered by Google’s ChromeOS, Chromebooks are fast and secure PCs, often cheaper than traditional Windows computers like Samsung’s Galaxy Books. They aren’t quite as powerful but are great for simple tasks that do not require plenty of horsepower or graphics processing. These devices rely on cloud-based apps, making them fast despite relatively weak hardware.

The Galaxy Chromebook Plus is a fairly powerful Chromebook in a thin and lightweight package. It runs an Intel Core 3 100U (Raptor Lake-R) processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The 15.6-inch OLED display offers 400 nits of peak brightness, bright enough for indoor use. The battery capacity isn’t known but up to 13 hours of battery life is great.

The device boasts a full-sized keyboard with two new keys. It debuts Google’s “Quick Insert” key, shared with caps lock. The new key offers quick access to Google’s AI tools and other important menus. It replaces the Launcher key, which now appears as a “G” to the left of the spacebar. Older Chromebooks can launch the Quick Insert menu through the Launcher key + F combination.

Additionally, the F10 functions key now offers voice dictation while F11 offers an accessibility shortcut. The Galaxy Chromebook Plus comes with Google Gemini integrated into the system. It’s a Chromebook designed for the future, the booming era of AI. Priced at $699 in the US, £649 in the UK, and €799 in the rest of Europe, the device will be available to purchase this month.
