After two years of Corsair and Seagate launching PCIe 5.0 SSDs, Samsung has finally launched its first, debuting as the 9100 Pro series. It had a brief launch in India, and now itโs available in the United States. As youโd expect, it offers impressive performance and is easily one of the fastest NVMe SSDs in the market right now.
Samsung has finally launched the 9100 Pro series PCIe 5.0 SSDs
There are two variants, Samsung 9100 Pro and 9100 Pro with Heatsink. Samsungโs 9100 Pro comes in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB storage options, with an 8TB option expected to launch in the second half of 2025. Sure there are two versions, as said, one with a heatsink and one without. The SSDs are built on V-NAND TLC (V8) and features a custom Samsung controller.
In terms of performance, the 9100 Pro is nearly twice as fast as the 990 Pro, its predecessor. It delivers sequential read speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s and write speeds of up to 13,400 MB/s. Random read and write speeds reach 2,200K IOPS and 2,600K IOPS, respectively.

You can snag the Samsungโs 9100 Pro, which starts at $199 for the 1TB variant, $299 for the 2TB, and $549 for the 4TB. Samsung hasnโt announced the pricing for the 8TB variant yet, but it will be the top-shelf among these. A heatsink version is also available for an additional $20 per model. All variants come with a 5-year limited warranty and the same durability ratings as the 990 Pro. In a press release, Samsung confirmed the availability begins in March.
Of course, it comes down to, whether you should buy one (or as many) or not. If you want a top-tier speed for gaming, video editing, or other data-heavy tasks, the Samsung 9100 Pro is one of the best SSDs available right now. Plus, the PCIe 5.0 SSDs are as reliable as they can be. On top of that, the 5-year warranty plays a good role.
