Apple just wrapped up the ‘Awe Dropping’ event where it announced the AirPods Pro 3 along with other key devices. Even if you’re a Samsung user and notice some features similar to those on the latest Apple earbuds, there’s one feature you’ll wish the Galaxy Buds had.

AirPods Pro 3 feature a new heart rate sensor, and it makes so much sense

Apple’s new AirPods Pro 3 now feature a heart rate sensor, which can monitor your pulse in real time using a tiny custom photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor. This sensor emits invisible infrared light, pulsing 256 times per second, to detect blood flow and provide accurate heart rate readings.

Paired with the AirPods Pro’s accelerometers, gyroscope, GPS, and a new on-device AI model on the iPhone, it can track heart rate, calories burned, and overall activity. Apple has also introduced Workout Buddy in the iPhone fitness app, which uses this data to offer personalized workout insights and maintain a comprehensive fitness history.

It’s about time, Samsung!

It’s actually great to see a heart rate sensor built into a pair of earbuds… it just makes sense. There are still plenty of people who aren’t big fans of smartwatches. Samsung has the Galaxy Ring for this crowd, but it would be nice to see a heart rate sensor in the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro. Would that be too much to ask?

I don’t think so, especially considering the launch price of the AirPods Pro 3. At $249, it’s the same price the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro launched at, which suggests the successor should be in a similar range. At that price, Samsung really should include a heart rate sensor in its earbuds.

On top of that, the AirPods Pro 3 now also offer a Live Translation feature, which Samsung already has. It’s nice to see Apple adopting useful, quality-of-life features. Apple is also claiming that the latest AirPods Pro 3 have the world’s best ANC, though we’ll have to see how they perform in practice.
