Samsung may soon expand its Galaxy Xcover and Tab Active series of rugged devices. While details are scarce, we have evidence suggesting the ongoing development of two new products designed specifically for industrial use in challenging environments. The company might launch the next-gen rugged smartphone and tablet sometime in the early months of 2025.
Samsung starts work on new rugged devices for the new year
Dutch publication GalaxyClub recently discovered that Samsung is internally testing a new rugged phone with the model number SM-G766B. The last model in the series, the Galaxy Xcover 7, had the model number SM-G556B, while the Xcover 6 Pro before it was identified by SM-G736B. This suggests the upcoming device will be the Galaxy Xcover 8 Pro.
Samsung’s recent launch schedules for the Xcover series also hint at a Pro model. The company typically alternates between regular and Pro variants. The Galaxy Xcover 6 Pro was succeeded by the Xcover 7, so the next model should be the Xcover 8 Pro. Expect more details to emerge in the coming months as Samsung ramps up its development.
The Korean firm is also readying a rugged tablet under the Galaxy Tab Active, the same source confirms. While its model number is not known, it could also be a Pro model. Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab Active 5 alongside the Galaxy Xcover 7 earlier this year. However, for a change, the upcoming model might be called Tab Active 5 Pro instead of Tab Active 6 Pro.
Previously, the Tab Active lineup followed a matching naming convention to the Xcover series. The Galaxy Tab Active 3 was followed by the Tab Active 4 Pro, and then the Tab Active 5. It’s unclear why Samsung is making an exception for the next-gen model. Or maybe the original sources of this information reported the name incorrectly or aren’t sure about it, time will tell.
