Samsung is integrating 3D audio technology into its TVs and soundbars. Its 2025 TV and soundbar lineup will feature the new Eclipsa Audio 3D technology co-developed with Google. The feature will be available across its 2025 lineup, from the Crystal UHD series to the Neo QLED 8K models.
Samsung works with Google to add 3D audio technology to its TVs and soundbars
Eclipsa Audio is a new audio technology developed by Samsung and Google with the Alliance for Open Media’s IAMF (Immersive Audio Model and Formats) format. It lets creators adjust sound location, intensity, and spatial effects to create 3D audio experiences. The new technology enhances immersive content, delivering engaging audio-visual experiences to consumers.
Samsung, the world’s largest TV maker for nearly two decades, is the first to integrate the new 3D audio technology. The company will also offer Eclipsa Audio in its soundbars starting this year, making this groundbreaking technology available to more consumers worldwide.
Creators can upload videos with Eclipsa Audio-compatible audio to YouTube starting in 2025. Users of Samsung’s 2025 TV and soundbar lineup will enjoy premium 3D spatial audio when watching these videos. Samsung touts seamless playback on its next-gen TVs for a more immersive viewing experience.
Samsung and Google plan to bring this technology to more devices with a certification program. They are working with the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) to certify devices for Eclipsa Audio compatibility. Amazon, AMD, Microsoft, Intel, Huawei, Meta, Netflix, Apple, Zoom, and several other companies have backed the IAMF format.
“This innovation opens new possibilities for immersive audio experiences and reinforces our commitment to shaping the future of home entertainment,” said Taeyong Son, the head of the R&D Team at Samsung’s display division. Jim Bankoski, Vice President of Engineering at Google Chrome added: We believe that Eclipsa Audio has the potential to change the way we experience sound.
