Samsung Increases Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Orders Amidst Galaxy S25 Rumors

by | Oct 16, 2024 | Galaxy S, News

There have been some conflicting rumors about Samsung’s chip strategy for the Galaxy S25 series. The latest reports suggest the new flagships might exclusively run the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 globally. A reputed industry insider may have just confirmed it. Samsung has allegedly placed more orders for the upcoming Qualcomm processor than last year.

The Galaxy S25 series could still be Snapdragon 8 Gen 4-exclusive

A few months ago, Samsung confirmed the existence of the Exynos 2500 in its pipeline. It sparked rumors of the Galaxy S25 series featuring the chip in some markets, if not globally. However, the Korean media recently said the firm has yet to secure a healthy yield rate for the next-gen flagship processor. It may not be able to produce enough units for the upcoming phones.

As such, Samsung was expected to ship the Galaxy S25 trio with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (the For Galaxy variant) globally. However, some reports claimed the Korean firm would also use MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400. The Dimensity chip was said to power the base model in some regions. Subsequent reports have refuted those claims as well.

Samsung allegedly plans to use a MediaTek chip in the Galaxy S25 FE in late 2025, with the Galaxy S25 flagship series running the Qualcomm processor globally. According to renowned industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, aka Snapdragon 8 Elite, has seen increased orders from the Korean behemoth. It suggests the chip will exclusively power the upcoming flagships.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 exclusive, while the base S24 and S24+ use Samsung’s Exynos 2400 in most markets outside the US and China. Increased orders suggest the share of Snapdragon will increase in the smaller models next year. The company isn’t expecting a huge growth in sales of the new flagships. Qualcomm will unveil the new chip later this month.
